MRSA committees play a vital role in representing members’ interests, supporting fair workplace practices, and advancing the Association’s strategic priorities. Made up of engaged members and supported by the Executive, committees carry out the detailed work that keeps MRSA effective, responsive, and member-driven.
Through collaboration, oversight, advocacy, and community-building, committees ensure that members have a voice in how MRSA operates and how it supports staff at Mount Royal University.
Joining an MRSA committee is one of the most direct ways to shape your workplace, strengthen your union, and connect with colleagues across campus. Committee participation allows members to contribute their skills and perspectives, influence decisions that matter, and help advance fair, transparent, and inclusive practices at MRU—all while building leadership experience and professional networks.
How to join?
The Audit and Finance Committee ensures MRSA’s financial health through strong oversight, transparent reporting, and smart risk management. We review financial plans and policies in partnership with the Governance Committee and ensure compliance with all legal and contractual responsibilities. Recommendations are presented to the Executive Board for approval.
The MRSA has come together with the Non Academic Staff Association (NASA), and the MacEwan Staff Association (MSA) to form a new coalition, strengthening our collective voice in a time of rapid change. As workers face increasing challenges such as economic uncertainty, job instability, and shifting workplace dynamics, this partnership allows us to build on our shared values of collaboration and solidarity to better support our members and advance our common goals.
The Collective Bargaining Committee represents MRSA members in negotiating fair and balanced collective agreements with MRU. Guided by the Labour Relations Code and supported by the MRSA Executive, the Committee works to secure the best outcomes for members. Any proposed agreements are shared with the membership for review and ratification, with clear communication throughout the process.
Through educational opportunities, special events, and shared best practices, the Committee supports the MRSA Executive and membership in building awareness and celebrating diversity across our organization.
The Communications Committee keeps the MRSA community connected and informed through clear, engaging, and consistent messaging. We share news, updates, and opportunities across various platforms to reflect MRSA’s values—transparency, timeliness, collaboration, and informativeness—and to support community engagement, recruitment, and planning.
The EDIA Committee is dedicated to fostering an inclusive and welcoming workplace where every MRSA member feels valued and respected. We celebrate the rich diversity of our community — including differences in race, ethnicity, language, religion, gender identity, ability, and more.
Through educational opportunities, special events, and shared best practices, the Committee supports the MRSA Executive and membership in building awareness and celebrating diversity across our organization.
The EDT Committee supports lifelong learning for MRSA members by managing funds from MRU that reimburse tuition and fees for approved education, development, and training activities. We also oversee funding that helps support the educational pursuits of members’ spouses and dependents, as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
The Governance Committee ensures MRSA’s governing documents, policies, and procedures stay current, consistent, and aligned with our Constitution. We review, revise, and draft materials to support the needs of the membership, with recommendations submitted to the Executive for approval.
The Labour Relations Committee (LRC) supports positive, fair, and respectful workplace relationships. We oversee MRSA’s labour relations functions, assist in collective bargaining with the MRU Board of Governors, and represent members’ concerns on behalf of the Executive.
Through educational opportunities, special events, and shared best practices, the Committee supports the MRSA Executive and membership in building awareness and celebrating diversity across our organization.
The VIRU Coalition? (spell out acronym) unites campus groups with a shared commitment to equity, diversity, Indigenization, accessibility, and respect at Mount Royal University.
Together, we raise awareness of key issues, strengthen collaboration across the university, and support inclusive, effective governance. Our work also extends beyond campus — connecting with post-secondary partners across Alberta to advocate for strong, accessible education.
