Education, Development,
& Training

Mount Royal University’s Education, Development, and Training (EDT) funding and scholarship programs are designed to invest in MRSA members and your families. These funds help reduce financial barriers to professional learning, career advancement, and personal development—whether you’re upgrading skills, pursuing formal education, attending conferences, or supporting your dependants’ studies at MRU. By providing dedicated, negotiated funding through the Collective Agreement, these programs recognize the importance of lifelong learning, well-being, and equitable access to educational opportunities for our members.

EDT Funding - Personal and Professional

The MRU Board of Governors provides an annual grant to support union members’ professional growth and personal development. Funding may be used for job-related education and training—such as post-secondary courses, professional designations, conferences, workshops, and skill-upgrading courses—as well as for personal development, wellness, and interest-based activities.

Employment-related reimbursements are generally non-taxable while personal reimbursements are taxable.

For full details, eligibility, and application information, please refer to the EDT Guide and FAQ.

Dependent & Spousal Scholarship

Under Article 29, eligible union members may access scholarship support for their children and spouses enrolled at Mount Royal University. Dependants must be under age 25 at the start of the applicable semester, and students must be registered full-time in approved MRU programs and achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0 (or equivalent). Members must be actively employed at MRU at the time of course completion; probationary employees and casual staff are not eligible.

For full eligibility details and application information, please refer to the EDT Guide and FAQ.
