Vice President (2024 - 2026)

Crystal KochHello there! I am pleased to represent the MRSA as your President.

Having joined MRU in 1989, I have seen many changes to both the university and our membership. Prior to becoming President, I worked for Enrolment Services in the Admissions and Recruitment Office. In my most recent position I was the Coordinator of Student Recruitment, overseeing an office of seven recruitment officers, two recruitment assistants and a data processor. This office is tasked with recruiting students to MRU and we travel all over the province and into BC, SK, ON and MB. I also had the privilege of travelling to China on behalf of MRU which was life changing!

My passion is governance, policy, justice and equity so it was fitting to pursue this role, as I am committed to overseeing the workplace and human rights administration for our membership. I believe we are making improvements in all areas of our union, building our reputation as valued and respected members within our MRU community, including representation at MRU Board of Governors, General Faculties Council, MRSA/MRFA/SAMRU Coalition Group and various University Joint Committees.

Outside of work, my passions include food, travel (Ko’Olina, Oahu is my happy place) and of course time spent with my family, friends and cat. I love a great happy hour so feel free to give me a shout and I’ll meet you over at SpotOn and we can catch up!I’m Crystal Koch, Vice-President of the Mount Royal Staff Association for 2024-26. I’m honored to serve our community in this role.

Since 2000, I’ve been part of MRU, starting as a casual employee in the Office of Institutional Research and Planning. Over the years, I’ve grown with the institution, and my role administering the Student Perception of Teaching process has evolved with technological advances. What I love about MRU is the opportunity to continue learning and serving in other roles.

Outside of my professional life, I’m a proud she/her who cherishes my roles as a grandma, mother, wife, daughter, and sister. Family is at the core of who I am, shaping my values and approach to life.

My passion for nature drives me – I’m an avid gardener , always eager to explore the wonders of nature (except during our chilly winters!). This love for nature fuels my curiosity and willingness to learn. I believe in the power of listening and continuous learning, which helps me connect with and understand the diverse perspectives within our community.
